How to prepare and repaint old masonry Degraded Masonry Paint
This old property had been previously painted with little or no preparation using poor building products and practices.The existing paint was flaking and barely attached to the substrate.The procedure took weeks to complete as the surface was rough and degrading so we began by burning off the whole back of the house to remove as much as was feasibly possible.
This procedure caused the remaining paint to become brittle and eased its removal using abrasive discs and further hard scraping. Kent Home Improvements then spot scraped and sanded the whole area a second time before applying fungicide and then washing the entire walls.Repairs were made and then a liberal coat of stabilizing solution applied followed by three coats of Sandtex masonry paint.In addition to this other work was also completed including Helibar reinforcement bar over a slightly dropping arched soldier course,replacement double glazed window upgrade,new fascia and guttering and a rebuilt soil stack |
